February 6, 2010 marked the union of two people - Penny Elizabeth Abell and Richard Shanahan Smith. I awoke to snow covered streets which was my photographer, Josh Meredith with Bella Grace Studio's dream. The day before, Josh was like a kid in a candy store when he saw that they were predicting snowfall for our wedding day. I am sucker for good photos, so we opted to have most of them taken outside. We had to capture the beautiful snow covered scenery even though it was bitterly cold. I can never repay my girls for standing outside in strapless, tea length dresses. I don't think I have ever been so cold in my entire life, but the time we spent outside was well worth the amazing photos Josh was able to capture.
Before our ceremony, we took pictures at Cave Hill Cemetery and afterward, we took a few outside of St. Francis and Wildwood Country Club. Josh took Rich and I across Bardstown Road to this snowy road covered in trees. Out of all the pictures he took, these are my favorite. They remind me a lot of Rich's parent's farm with the fence and surrounding trees. The road had been plowed so it was perfect, especially since I was wearing a wedding dress.
Overall, our wedding day was a blur, but we are so fortunate to have spent the day with such close family and friends. We had a large wedding party, consisting of eight bridesmaids and ten groomsmen, and my two brothers who walked me down the aisle. The day was filled with much emotion, especially since my Dad wasn't there with us to give me away. As a child, I would often dream of my wedding day and my Dad was always there walking me down the aisle. It was rough, but my brothers helped me to keep the tears tucked away and I made it to the altar to see Rich. The morning of our wedding, Rich gave me a very thoughtful wedding gift and inside the card he wrote, "thank you for walking the aisle for me."
In preparation for our big day, we had eight wedding showers. We are so fortunate to have so many caring people in our lives that wanted to shower us with gifts, friends, family and food. Father's Day weekend, June of 2010, we had another wedding shower for Suzy's side of the family. It was a celebration of our wedding because most of her siblings live out of town and were unable to make it down for our snowy wedding. We had a fantastic day on the farm celebrating our fathers and our marriage.
Cheers to many more memories and fun-filled years to come as Mr. and Mrs. Richard Smith!
