A Little Piece of Heaven

Two weeks ago I flew to Charlotte, NC to visit one of my very best friends - Sarah, her twins (Barrett & Will) and her wonderful parents, Sue and Woody. Sue and Woody sold their home in Louisville last fall and moved to Beaufort, SC. to begin their retirement full of rest and relaxation. Plus, all three of their children live in the Carolinas so being closer to their family was their main objective. We spent all of our time with them in their "beach" house and had the best time, ever.

The majority of Forrest Gump was filmed in Beaufort and the Chocolate Tree is a shop that gave Tom Hanks his 'box of chocolates' each and every day. We made a stop inside the store - there was chocolate candy everywhere! I picked a few pieces from the candy case and created my own special box of chocolates. Each and every piece was delightful.
On our way from Charlotte to Beaufort, we stopped along the way and had some ice cream. Will has a enormous sweet tooth!

Friday morning, Sarah and I drove to Hilton Head Island to shop at the outlet mall, eat lunch on the water and take in the beautiful sights of the island. Beaufort is only a 40 minute drive to HHI and an hour to Charleston. By boat, you can reach HHI in ten minutes. While visiting, I found the place where I want to retire!

Saturday morning we took a carriage ride through the small town of Beaufort. It was a girls day so just Sarah, Sue, Barrett and myself hung out. We had the best time!

We also ventured to the beach and hung out by the pool. I can't get enough of the twins - they make my heart melt. Sarah, the twins, Sue and Woody make me smile all the time and mean the world to me. Sarah and I met our first day of high school and have remained best friends. Her parents treat me like one of their own and for that I am grateful. It makes me sad knowing that their new home is in the Carolina's - a place I long to be.

I had an adventure with my flight home... my connecting flight from Memphis to Louisville was cancelled Sunday night due to 'cockpit mechanical failure' so Delta put me up in roach motel Sunday night. I was booked on an 8:45 AM flight Monday morning, but at 4:30 AM, I received a phone call from Delta with news of yet another cancelled flight. I was finally booked on a flight to Detroit (with a five hour layover) then home to Louisville. Needless to say, I touched down in Louisville 24-hours later than originally planned. But, the good news is that Delta gave me $150 worth of vouchers for a future flight so I'll be returning to the Carolinas as soon as I can!
