Oaks and Derby 140

"And it's run for the roses
As fast as you can
You fate is delivered
Your moment's at hand
It's the chance of a lifetime
In a lifetime of chance
And it's high time you joined
In the dance
It's high time you joined
In the dance"

My favorite weekend to be a Louisville girl has come to a close.  Oaks and Derby weekend make our city come alive, which is one of the main reasons I love being from Louisville.  We made our way to the backside on Oaks Day, with Valerie, Brian and one og his best friends, Mike.  Mike is a school teacher so thanks to the school districts for giving teachers and students both the day off, he was able to join in the fun.  Rich unfortunately had to work so he wasn't able to join us to watch the ponies run.

This year, it was a bit on the chilly side, with a lot of wind.  I was cold, but that didn't stop us from having fun.  Luckily, due to the weather, the backside wasn't very crowded which was nice.

We hosted our very first Derby party on Saturday.  As much as I enjoyed the company from friends, I did miss being at the track.  It was a picture perfect day; one we haven't had in quite awhile for the running of the roses.  It was absolutely gorgeous outside so we were able to host our party in the back yard.  The kids had a blast and Tyler enjoyed staying up way past his bedtime.  He slept like a rock and slept in on Sunday.  He had the post Derby blues too!

California Chrome, who was the heavy favorite won the Derby and most recently won the Preakness Stakes.  He is on his way to become the first Triple Crown winner since 1978 if he can pull off the challenge in at the Belmont in New York in a few weeks.  Go baby go!
