The Triple Crown of Running

As a New Year's resolution, I vowed to run more. Running is hard and challenging, but once I get into the groove, I like it and feel better about myself. I'm very active at the gym and enjoy taking Step Aerobics, Urban Iron, Triple Fit, Minute Mayhem and Spinning classes, but on the days I don't do a class, I run.

I gave up on running in 2009 after I ran the Triple Crown and re-injured my IT Band. I gave it rest hoping for the best and as of yet, I've not experienced pain.

Rich and I are participating in the Louisville Triple Crown of Running which consists of a 5K (3.1 miles), 10K (6.2 miles) and a 10-mile race. This will be my fifth time running this series, but Rich is a rookie. I signed both of us up several weeks ago so it is a deal set in stone. As long as you cross the finish line in all three races, you earn a t-shirt that says you completed the Triple Crown. The t-shirt serves as an award for completing a total of 19.3 miles which is a big deal!

Rich and I enjoy running together on the weekends either outside or at the gym. He is an avid athlete who enjoys playing sports, but distance running was never his thing. Training for the Triple Crown will help him in all the sports he plays so training serves as a double bonus. He has a good friend, Seth who is training to run the Derby Festival Marathon so Seth keeps Rich in check. Every morning Seth sends Rich a text with the miles he needs to run that day and at the end of the day, he makes sure those miles are under his belt.

Our first race, the Anthem 5K is set for Saturday, February 26th:
The second leg, the Rodes City Run 10K is on Saturday, March 12th:
The last and final leg of the Triple Crown series is Saturday, March 26th:

Upon completion of 19.3 miles, you have the glory in saying you completed the:
