Baby Smith, Weeks 16 & 17

I'm moving right along, approaching the half way mark of my pregnancy.  So far, so good!  I feel great now that the sickness part has passed and has been gone for quite some time now.  I am still working out four to five days a week doing step aerobics, urban iron and spinning, with some long walks here and there.  I seem to wake up every night around 2:28-2:30 AM on the dot, with a thirst I can't seem to combat.  I have to get something to drink which usually ties me over until the morning.  My drink of choice has been apple juice which seems to do the job in the middle of the night.  I think I look a little more pregnant these days, although I feel huge.

16 Weeks

Size: an avocado
Development: The baby will double his/her weight and add inches to its length this week.  The legs are much more developed and the head is more erect.  The eyes have moved closer to the front of it's head and the ears are beginning to hear what's going on outside the womb.  The baby's toenails are growing and the heart is pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day.

How far along: 17 weeks (4 months, 1 week)
Total weight gain: 11 pounds
Maternity clothes: None yet, just the belly band
Sleep: Some good nights, some bad nights
Movement: Nothing yet, but soon that will happen
Gender: ?
Belly Button in or out: In
What I miss: Cold deli meat sandwiches
What I am looking forward to: Feeling the baby move around and kick me!

17 Weeks

Size: a turnip, 5 ounces
Development: The baby's skeleton has changed from soft cartilage to bone and the umbilical cord is growing stronger and thicker.  The baby can move its joints and his/her sweat glands have developed.
How far along: 17 weeks (4 months, 2 weeks)
Total weight gain: 11 pounds
Maternity clothes: None yet, just the belly band
Sleep: Some good nights, some bad nights
Movement: I think I may be feeling some movement because I feel these weird flutters that are uncomfortable and move from side to side and up and down.
Gender: We have the gender ultrasound on Wednesday morning, but it's going into a sealed envelope...
Belly Button in or out: In
What I miss: Sleeping for more than an hour at a time during the night and sweating a lot at the gym.  I have the most active bladder of anyone I know.
What I am looking forward to: Our ultrasound and doctor's appointment on Wednesday.  I think ultrasounds are so neat and I am anxious to hear the baby's heart beat again.

Do you think we're having a girl or a boy?  The majority of people have said boy which is music to Rich's ears.
