Tyler Time - Four Months
You have deep, dark blue/gray eyes with extremely long eye lashes. We think your eyes are going to remain this color. They are beautiful!
Your hair is still pretty dark, but seems to have lightened up some. You have just about lost all your newborn hair, with the exception of a patch on the top of your head and around the bottom in the back. It's still really thick back there. You do have a lot of new hair growth, however it doesn't seem to be coming in as dark. Everyone says based on your eyebrows that you will have brown hair. We shall see!
You are still a pretty slow eater when taking a bottle and nursing. You don't guzzle your milk which I think is great because you don't spit up a lot. Every now and then you'll spit up a little, but not a lot. I love watching you discover your bottle and see your eyes light up when you see your bottle or when you know I am going to nurse you. You are just so gentle.

We introduced oatmeal to you and you eat from a spoon as though you have been doing so for the first four months of your short life thus far. You open wide when you see the spoon coming for your mouth. You get oatmeal before bedtime and are just so happy. You coo and cah while kicking your feet. You are just the sweetest, most happy baby.
You go for your 4-month check-up with shots on Thursday. I am really anxious to see how much you weigh and how long you are. Two weeks ago when you went to the doctor for your first 'sick' visit, you were up to 14.3 pounds, but I don't think you've gained much weight since then.
Your giggle is one of the funniest things we have ever heard. Your smile brightens the room and your laugh is contagious. It makes me melt every single time. You think your Daddy is really special and give him BIG smiles pretty much every time you see him. You will belly laugh when we tickle your tummy or grab your toes. You love to fly like an airplane and love to play peek-a-boo and patty cake.
You have found your hands and fingers and love to chew on them. Both are in your mouth, along with everything in your hands, all the time. You are also a drooling machine so it wouldn't surprise me if teeth are on the horizon. You still are not a paci fan. Sometimes if you are fighting sleep, we can put it in your mouth and you'll fall right to sleep, but you still don't keep it in your mouth on your own. You take one suck then spit it out so we have to hold it in your mouth.
You are wearing a size 1-2 diaper. We really like diapers from Costco and you seem to too. Thank goodness you've never had a diaper rash or irritation.
You wear 3-6 month clothing, but we have a few items that are 9-month that fit you. You can wear 6-month but still have room to grow.
When we give you kisses, you open your mouth like you are trying to kiss back or biting at us. So funny.
You are rolling over a little from back to tummy, but your arm gets stuck and you don't know what to do with it. You certainly haven't mastered rolling over just yet, but I think really soon you'll be doing it all the time. We certainly can't leave you unattended that's for sure. The first time you rolled was for your Grammy, then when I got to her house to pick you up, you did it for me!
You really only cry when you are hungry or fighting sleep. But for the most part your cry is more of a soft cry/fuss, but when something is wrong you have a very distinct, sad cry which doesn't happen very often.
You love to watch your doggies and smile when Kody walks up to you. You seem to be fascinated by them. He loves to give you kisses and you think it's the coolest thing.
We have a nighttime routine that is working well for us. About 8 PM we begin your bath which takes about 45 minutes. You LOVE bath time and seem to be a water baby. You kick, splash and bat your arms and can't wait for me to finish washing your body and hair so I can take you out into the big bathtub and let you go 'swimming.' I hold your head and bottom and you go to town. You laugh, scream, talk and swim. If I would let you stay in the tub two hours I think you would. Sometimes you just veg out and lay there so still. I think the warm water feels good on your skin and helps you to relax. I love it that you love your bath so much. There is no better smell than a 'so fresh and so clean' baby!
After your bath we feed you oatmeal, then you play on your activity mat before your last feeding for the night. You seem to be a night owl because you don't go to sleep until about 10 PM and sleep until 7-7:30 AM. We have tried putting you down earlier, but you are just not ready and want to play. I'm okay with that because with us working, we want to spend as much time in the evenings with you as possible. On the weekends, you seem to enjoy sleeping in. After your morning feeding you typically fall back to sleep until 9:30 AM. I think you would do this every morning, but unfortunately you have to be awake by 8:30 so I can get you ready for day care. I hate waking a sleeping baby!
You are grabbing onto things on your activity gym and pulling on them. You love to pull them off the velcro and put them into your mouth.
You absolutely love looking at the 'baby' in the mirror. You smile and talk to him, but I don't think you realize that it's you. I read in a baby book that babies don't recognize themselves in a mirror until about the age of two so you just think it's another baby.
We love you so much and cherish each and every single day with you! I am astonished how fast time has flown. When I think back, it seems like forever ago that you were born, but then when I realize you're four months old I can't believe it. We have treasured each and every day with you. I still feel guilty leaving you behind at day care so it's not getting any easier. On Sundays I wish the weekends were three or four days long, or better yet, I wish I could stay at home with you. I miss you so much during the day and look forward to 5:00 because I know your sweet snuggles are awaiting me. My favorite part of the day!
I hope your demeanor continues to be laid back and sweet. You really do have the best personality and those smiles...those smiles melt everyone's heart!
