Tyler Time - Five Months
Each and every day I reflect on how thankful I am for Tyler and how much joy he has brought to our family. He truly is something special!
Tyler is very much a social butterfly and has yet to meet a stranger. He is not bashful at all, which I am thankful for. But, I have a feeling that day is coming because most babies go through a period of shyness I believe.
His laugh and giggles make us smile from ear to ear. We can't get enough of his laughter and he still thinks Rich is pretty awesome. Rich gets a smile and/or laugh out of him every single time. I do too, but he thinks Rich is pretty special. He loves to be scared, he'll jump then laugh out loud. He loves to play "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Pat-a-Cake." My Mom plays a game with him where she grabs his arm, toes and then his tummy and he laughs. He knows that she'll be tickling his tummy so before she even gets there, he starts to smile and squeal.
He loves for us to make a clicking sound with our tongue. And he laughs when we knock on the table. He will belly laugh!
He enjoys sitting up in his Bumbo and has for about two months now. She does get bored after about ten minutes though, but I think he enjoys sitting up so he can see what's going on.
We lay him on the floor a lot because he hasn't mastered rolling over just yet. He tries and tries, but doesn't know how to bring his left leg around to complete the task. We work with him nightly and will help him roll and he smiles once he has rolled completely over. During tummy time though, he will roll from his tummy to his back no problem. He tries to roll over when he's in the bath tub, in his crib or on the changing table and gets frustrated. He seems to rock a lot trying to get all the way over.
He's been eating oatmeal like a champ and just two weeks ago we gave him baby food. He loves his vegetables. So far he's had green beans, peas, sweet potatoes and carrots and loves all four. He eats every last drop. He has his vegetables at night before his 'dinner' bottle so I've eliminated oatmeal in the evenings because he just wasn't interested. Instead he is eating oatmeal at daycare during the afternoon which is going very well. He just started the oatmeal at daycare this week and yesterday Miss Juana left a note on his report card with a heart that said "such a good boy eating today!"
He sleeps all night long. We begin his nightly routine about 8 PM with a bath then a book and by 9 PM he is ready for his bottle and is alseep on his own by 9:30. He knows it is bedtime without a problem. If I am out past 8 PM he cries the entire time in the car. It makes me so sad and feel so guilty because he knows what times it is and it is my fault that we are out late. This mainly only happens on the weekends, but I try mt best to be home before 8 PM.
On Labor Day Tyler got his first ear infection. It was awful. He woke up at 2 AM Labor Day morning and something just wasn't right. He screamed when I tried to nurse him. He screamed when I tried a bottle and screamed even more when I attempted to lay him back down. I held him all night long and come morning I placed a call into our doctor. A nurse called me back and said it sounded to her like an ear infection, although his temperature was only 100.1. We took him to the Immediate Care enter
We are still swaddling him at night, but keep his arms out. He never has liked his arms to be tucked into a blanket/swaddler. Now that he squirms in his crib, sometimes the blanket comes untucked, but he can't suffocate because these are breathable blankets.
Tyler weighs 16.5 pounds. He is getting so big!
I nurse Tyler in the morning, but the rest of the he gets milk through a bottle. Each bottle is five ounces but sometimes he only takes four ounces. He gets 50% breast milk and 50% formula.
He continues to love bath time. After I wash his body and hair, I sit him up in the tub. This is a big deal! He plays with his floating rubby ducky and frog. He will kick and splash but always enjoys chewing on his wash cloth.
His little gummy smile is hilarious. I'm going to miss that when he starts getting teeth. I could look at his sweet smile all day!
He drools like crazy so he wears a bib all day. He loves to chew on his bibs and play with them.
He squeals and makes so many noises. In the mornings he loves to talk to me while I"m getting him dressed. He is so very happy in the morning.
He is still somewhat of a slow eater, but when he's hungry, he will down a bottle. Sometimes it takes him forever to drink five ounces, but I don't mind.
He loves kisses and loves raspberries on his tummy. He thinks it's the funniest thing and will laugh out loud.
He loves it when you talk loudly to him or make loud sounds. I hope his hearing is still okay!
He loves his hands and feet!
He is really trying to sit himself up. He can sit up really well as long as he's supported but I'd say sooner than later, he'll be sitting up on his own. In his car seat he has really begun to pull himself up. He looks like he is doing sit ups.
He is getting a lot more hair so he's not bald at all. He did get his very first haircut by Mamaw Dot. He had a few really long pieces in the front that just hung down. I believe it was residual newborn hair that had gotten really long. now that those pieces have been blended in with the rest of his hair, he looks so much better. He still has a 'mullet' in the back and it's darker than the new hair growth, but it's so cute.
His sweet little grin is one of the most precious things I've ever seen. He seems to have a huge heart and he really smiles when he sees us or familiar faces. But, he even smiles for strangers so I really hope this doesn't change. He sure is a smiley boy.
He sure seems like such a big boy lately.
He can't take his eyes off the TV and will turn his neck as much as he can to get his eyes on it. Rich will sit with him on the couch and they watch ESPN together. He loves the flashing colors.
I can't believe how fast the past five months have passed. It's amazing to me how time flies. I still can't believe our boy is on his way to being six months old. That is just unreal to me.
Now, enjoy some sweet, smiley pictures of our best boy:
