Hands down, the past two years have been the best years of my life, thus far. Our Tyler Shanahan makes our world complete, one day at a time. Don't get me wrong, I miss my itty bitty baby, but I also enjoy watching him learn, grow and discover each and every day. He talks all the time, repeats most of what we say, runs, jumps, loves sports, loves being outside, loves riding his bike with his helmet on (safety first!) and being the giant cuddle bug that he is.
As he turns two, these are what he's up to these days:
Tyler refers to himself as "Ty-Ty" and always says "Ty-Ty do it", "Ty-Ty run fast", "Ty-Ty play ball", "Ty-Ty shoot hoops", "Ty-Ty ride bike with helmet", etc. He is a riot!
He also likes to help with most things and says "Mommy, I help!"
When he wants someone to stand up, he says "Up!" and kisses their leg for them to stand up.
Loves shooting hoops and us playing with him. We line up against the wall and run across the living room to shoot as though we are running down a basketball court.
Loves going to the YMCA and shooting hoops with the big kids, with a big goal on a big court. When we are out walking, he will spot a basketball goal in someone's backyard from a mile away and always wants to go into their backyard to "shoot hoops."
Loves to wear his shoes to play ball, so he enjoys keeping his tennis shoes on in the house. He calls them his "daddy shoes" because Rich bought him his first pair of Nike's.
He weighs 25 pounds and has a really long torso. I think he is going to be tall like his Daddy.
He wears 18 months pants but most 18 month shirts are too short. We've moved on to 2T, but 2T pants fall off him. Thank goodness for a belt.
Loves to share our food and drink out of our cup. He mainly drinks water and whole milk, but will occasionally ask for juice that is watered down. He really enjoys when Rich drinks Powerade and always wants a drink of that.
He really enjoys watching a "show" in the morning while I get ready and before bed. He isn't a big TV watcher, but he loves watching the Garth Brooks, Luke Bryan and Beetles Tribute concerts on DVR . He is most certainly a music man. If a Luke or Garth song comes on the radio while we are driving, he will shout "Luke!" "Garth!" It's pretty great. He is also into Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and anything Elmo. He discovered Barney at GiGi's house and seems to love it.
Tyler loves sports of any kind. He is really into baseball now, with his bat, glove, ball and tee ball tee. I have a feeling we will spend many a days and nights on playing fields or courts.
Loves dogs. When we see one when we are outside, he says "Doggie! I pet! Soft hands."
He is still such a good, healthy eater. He would choose fruits and veggies over most anything else. Although lately, he has developed quite the sweet tooth. He loves M&M's, chocolate chips, cookies and fun fruits.
Every day he says several new words and phrases. He is quite the talker and expresses what he wants without any problems.
He tells Molly the dog to "down!" so she will lay down, "move" if she's in his way or "no no Mo Mo" if she's trying to get his food. He loves his dogs that's for sure, especially since the tragic incident with Kody and the dog bite. Kody is still kept away from Tyler, but he still loves him just the same.
We flipped Tyler's car seat to forward facing three weeks before he turned two. I wanted to flip him when he turned two, but he was getting really uncomfortable rear facing. His legs were so frog legged it wasn't funny. Now that he's forward facing and behind the passenger seat, he seems to enjoy watching out the window. He spots buses, big trucks, "neighs", dogs, people running, fast cars, motorcycles, etc. and tells me when he sees something that interests him.
Tyler is a big fan of choo-choos and motorcycles these days. We always say that the train behind our house is taking a tractor to Pop, so he says "tractor! Pop! farm! choo-choo" when one passes by.
He goes to bed between 9:30 and 10 PM and wakes between 8:30 (on school days) and 9-9:30 on the weekends. He takes a 2-3 hour nap daily. He loves his nap and goes down so well for them.
Every day is an adventure with our little guy and I wouldn't have it any other way. I never dreamed being a parent would be so rewarding and challenging at the same time. But the best days far out weigh the bad, and the bad are few and far between.
