Icing and Design

Lately I've become obsessed with learning how to decorate sugar cookies in a fancy way. I want to use royal icing and be successful. There are so many wonderful cookie blogs out there and their beautiful cookies really give me the urge to try my hand at creating masterpieces. Last night, I learned the hard way that decorating cookies is an art that requires lots of patience. Also, it helps if you use the correct type of icing. I didn't make royal icing because I have not purchased meringue powder. I decided to use a glace recipe that I've used before but it was just too runny for any shape to take place on the surface of the cookie. All in all it was quite the disaster as I had icing all over me, the counter, the floor, the sink...you get the point. Rich came in the kitchen at the right time to snap a camera phone picture and laugh. But he did encourage me to try again...!

Here's a sneak peek at the supplies I ordered from Amazon. Next step... a boatload of patience and the right kind of icing. Meringue powder... I'm on the hunt for you locally!

I'm going to try my hand at this again this weekend. Here's to hoping I am more successful this time around!
