30 Weeks - Third Trimester
Size: about the size of a head of cabbage
Development: Our little guy measures about 15.7 inches long and weighs close to three pounds. I wish I could get another ultrasound so we know his actual weight, but I guess it's a good thing that we haven't needed another ultrasound because that means we have been complication free. A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds our boy keeping him safe and cushioned. The volume of my amniotic fluid will decrease as he gets bigger and takes up more room in my uterus. His eyes are continuing to develop although he keeps them shut for most parts of the day. This will continue after he is born. When he does open his eyes, he will respond to changes in light but his vision will read about 20/400 which means he will only be able to make out large objects a few inches from his face.
How far along: 30 weeks (7.5 months)
Total weight gain: 24 pounds (We have a new scale that works!)
Sleep: Some good nights, some bad nights. Lately, I get up once or twice an hour, all night long. Needless to say, I have been pretty tired the last few days.
Movement: The movement is more intense and I love it. He moves around primarily in the morning and night. When I put my hand on my belly, he responds just about every time. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing...is he telling me to leave him alone?! We haven't been counting movement or kicks yet, but that will come after my next doctor's appointment next week.
Gender: Boy
Belly Button in or out: In, but I have a feeling not for much longer! It is close to the edge.
What I miss: Sleeping through the night and my back not hurting when I am at work. Sitting at a desk is becoming more of a challenge. I get up and move around often, but when I sit back down in my chair, my back begins to ache again.
What I am looking forward to: Counting kicks and movement. We are also getting everything together for his nursery - a little late I know, but the limbo of my condo has really put a damper on things. I'll do a post once the nursery is good to go.
